Meet our musicians: Phil Rundquist…
Phil Rundquist
Instrument(s): Percussion, Electric Bass
First performance with the band: December 13, 1992
What I like most about playing: I enjoy the sonority of the symphonic band sound. Adding to that sound is a creative outlet for me.
My favorite musical memory: Playing tuba was a passion for me. Performing a concert in the Swiss Alps and in the Kennedy Center were wonderful experiences.
A fun fact about myself: I was a middle school band director for 35 years. I survived! (and enjoyed most of it!)
Three words I would use to describe Salem Symphonic Winds: Challenging, Rewarding, Community Treasure
Short Bio: Band director in Idaho and Oregon, 3-time "teacher of the year,” symphony tuba player, tuba instructor at NW Nazarene University and Boise State University, inducted in NW Bandmasters Association.
